Dr. Oesterreich joined the University of Pittsburgh in August 2010 as Professor with Tenure in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology. She is currently co-leader of the Cancer Biology Program at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center (HCC), and co-director of the Women’s Cancer Research Center, a collaboration between UPMC HCC and Magee-Womens Research Institute. Her laboratory focuses on resistance to hormonal therapies in patients with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, invasive lobular breast cancer and metastases.  Dr. Oesterreich enjoys working in multi-disciplinary teams, is committed to mentoring the next generation of breast cancer researchers, and is working closely with local and national breast cancer advocates.

She has authored over 180 scientific articles in the area of breast cancer, serves on editorial boards for Cancer Research, Hormones and Cancer, Breast Cancer Research, functions as Deputy Editor for Molecular Cancer Research, and as Associate Editor for npj Breast Cancer.  Her research has continuously been funded by NCI, CDMRP, Susan G Komen, and BCRF for many years.  Dr. Oesterreich is a Susan G Komen Scholar, thereby belonging to a selective group of leading national and international breast cancer experts.  She has recently chaired the Tumor Cell Biology Study Section at the NIH, and the Gordon Research Conference on Hormones and Cancer.  She is currently enrolled in The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (​ELAM) Program for Women.  Dr. Oesterreich and her husband Dr. Adrian Lee have 2 daughters, and enjoy living in Pittsburgh.
